VISIONS OF EDEN

  SOLD OUT!!

As many of you know, over the last two years I have been working on creating my first fine art book. WhileVisions of Eden” is my fifth published book it is my first limited edition, fine art project.  Gleaned from all the years of photographing in many visually stunning locations I strove to create a book that reflected my mood and feelings that I experienced during my time in these Edens. In this book I share you the rich diversity of life and landscapes of our planet and offer a glimpse into its very essence and soul. Visions was designed to be both beautiful to the eye and a delight to hold and study as I endeavor to inspire and show you my interpretation of our world.

It is also my first book that brings my imagery and prose together on the same page. “Visions of Eden” is not simply a book of nature photography, but a visually captivating, emotionally charged, journal of my images and words that delves into the essence of each location. Together they give you a sense of what fuels the passion of my artistic interpretation of our living world. The images are accompanied with image-related poems, haiku, and passages that are both compelling and thought provoking.

“Visions of Eden” is being made available as a very limited edition book (500 copies) designed in the coffee table tradition and comes, hand signed and numbered, with its own slipcover. The book’s hard cover and its companion slipcase are elegantly designed with gold embossed lettering with the slipcover being cloth bound as well. All interior pages are printed using heavy-grade fine art printing paper to bring out the brilliant colors and tonal ranges to maximize the presentation quality of all 119 images. I am truly proud of not only the book but also for the chance to share it with all of you who have enjoyed my work and writing over the years.

IGNITING IMAGINATION - The Series

Over the last four years that I have been writing this series on creativity and its influence on us as photographers and artists, it has garnished many followers. Now, for the first time, the entire collection of 200 installments is available in a four volume set. The installments take an insightful, thought provoking, and sometimes irreverent look at how we see ourselves as photographers and creative artists and how we can be lifted to new heights of creativity or overcome challenges to avoid creative stagnation. Every installment is accompanied by one of my inspiring, fine art images which has been faithfully reproduced to match the originals.

At this time the volumes are available to order in PDF version only.

They can be purchased individually for $6.95 or as a complete set for $19.95 (A $7.85 savings compared to ordering all four individually).

Excerpts from the Volume 1 Preface:

"When you create something, you are actually bringing it into being, making it from nothing. But how do you make something from nothing? How do you achieve creativity? What is the essence of creativity?"

"Creativity has its roots in the very fiber of our beings....However, the expression or suppression of our creativity is influenced by our society and culture, personality differences, and specific personal factors (e.g. one's life experiences, knowledge, and skills). There are many forces stemming from both our own making and the world around us that can aid or hinder our ability to be creative. Igniting Imagination is my look at and thoughts about those forces that can influence our creativity and define us a creative beings."

Excerpts from the Volume 2 Preface:

"Whether you realize it or not we are in a subtle revolution. We are all part of, and contributors to, our current golden age of creativity. While the banner carrier for this creative period is best seen in the technological changes happening every day around us, creative influences permeate through all aspects of our lives and behaviors. You are surrounded by it, a part of it, and at many levels even contribute to it. While creativity manifests itself differently for each of us we all share a common trait best summed up in 1981 when Arthur Leonard Schawlow, a Nobel Prize recipient spoke of creativity in the field of science. He said:

"The labor of love aspect is important. The most successful scientists often are not the most talented. But they are the ones who are impelled by curiosity. They've got to know what the answer is."

Excerpts from the Volume 3 Preface:

"Without our ability to imagine what would we be? Just living entities that see only what is rather than seeing what could be? While we all live in a real world that necessitates us being responsible and realistic being able to imagine adds richness to our lives and is one of the driving forces that helps us to grow as individuals."

"Our imaginations allow us to view the world around us in a manner that is more magical than mundane. It gives us the ability not to transform the sun into a yellow spot on a canvas but rather to transform a yellow spot into a sun. We use it to turn laundry baskets into rocket ships and rocket ships become transportation to explore the heavens. Magical indeed."

Excerpts from the Volume 4 Preface:

"The challenge of any artist, regardless of their chosen media, is to continue to ask hard questions, assessing one’s own work, motivations, and passions in an effort to understand and improve. For most, this can be a very difficult challenge. The reality is that resiliency and response to change is what’s needed most for creative efforts to evolve."

“There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.”

Sophia Loren

THE INNER ARTISTRY OF OUTDOOR PHOTOGRAPHY

From the Introduction:

We are All Creatures of Vision

This is the point of reference from which this book begins. Unlike many photography books that instruct you how to make better and more creative use of your camera equipment, this book focuses on the most overlooked aspect of photography – the photographer. All photographs, whether snapshots for the family scrapbook or fine art images, share the same point of origin, a creative vision born within the mind of the photographer.

Inner Artistry of Outdoor Photography is the result of experience gained through over 20 years of teaching photography workshops. The book is not about shutter speeds and f-stops, per se. Instead it focuses on how we first create images through imagination, awareness and visualization and how various forces can either assist or hinder our creativity. The book then goes on to describe a creative process that involves giving a definable form to our vision and how we can use that "blueprint" to build an image in the camera so that the results match our initial spark of creative inspiration. Attention is paid to how such things as design elements, use of space, visual weight and balance, can all be used to their best advantage to improve the visual strength of the finished image.

Topics include:

AWARENESS AND HOW WE VISUALIZE

CREATING AN INNER VISION

HOW WE RESPOND TO IMAGES

BARRIERS TO AWARENESS AND VISUALIZATION

THE PHOTOGRAPHIC PROCESS

THE ART OF DESIGN

BUILDING IMAGES TO MATCH YOUR VISION

BENDING LIGHT - The Fine Art of Abstract Photography

Bending Light is a fine art image book created by award winning nature photographer Mark Lissick. It contains 59 unique and innovative images that blur the boundary between photography and art while taking you on a visual journey of creativity. Using flowers as the source of color, shape, and tone, they become the paintbrushes to produce sweeping color and line on a digital canvas.

The book is a compilation of a four year journey in creative thought as Mark was photographing in the estate gardens of Claude Monet in France. Using innovative techniques, Mark abstracts the flowers to a point where the resulting image can no longer be considered a photograph. It is a merging of source and technology into a new whole that is far greater than the sum of its parts.

The result is a body of work that cannot be thought of as photographs but rather a collection of visual imagery whose interpretations is subject only to the viewer’s imagination.

While Bending Light is primarily a showcase for the fine art abstract images, Mark begins the book’s visual journey with a discussion of his creative journey from reality-based photography to abstract design.

Bending Light also includes an introduction by former National Geographic photographer Dewitt Jones in which he talks about how the images represent a paradigm shift away from traditional flower photograph into the realm of fine art abstracts.
