The Flowers of Monet workshop has expanded. The workshop now includes:

   Two new abstract photography techniques;

Two days of learning techniques to make impressionist-style images.

NEW BENDING LIGHT VIDEO!!!!

Created using the techniques taught at this workshop, I have set some of my best abstract and impressionist images to music.

The video is posted on vimeo.com. To watch it just click HERE.

______________________________

    Claude Monet is considered the founding member of the impressionist movement in painting. Impressionist art is based on the use of color, which has to "draw" the motive without resorting to line. Monet used the effects of light and color in order to capture the changing conditions of his subjects, transforming Nature into art.

 This intensive workshop will photographically follow in the footsteps of Monet as we use

advanced photographic techniques to turn "reality" into art.

    Like Monet, who studied his subjects intently, planned his paintings and worked hard to achieve his results, you will spend eight days immersed in the beauty of the flowers and gardens of the Monet estate. Time enough to study, visualize and create impressionistic and abstract images of nature. This workshop begins by throwing out the standard dictums of flower photography and introduces to a whole new paradigm in creative photography. Cameras not longer are a means to capture a scene but are, instead, blank canvases on which to paint. Flowers are not subjects but sources of light, color, and shape: our paintbrushes to create new and unique images.

    This is a lecture-based workshop that will introduce to a number of new photographic techniques that will change the way you visualize subjects and create new artistic definitions. Each day will feature two field trips into the gardens to complete assignments followed by a review and critique of you field work. All our garden photography sessions will be conducted before and after public hours.

     At the gateway to Normandy and only 45 km from Paris, the village of Giverny (pronounced Jee-va-nyee), the Monet Estate and the surrounding Normandy country side will be the setting for this eight day workshop. It is an area incredibly rich in color, flowers, landscapes, and ancient architecture creating unlimited photographic opportunities. Our days will be spent learning and applying advance techniques and unique tools to the art of abstract and impressionist flower photography. Using elements of light, time, focus, lens selection, filters, depth of field, and motion, you will be able to use these techniques in the field in order to create visually stunning abstract and impressionistic images of your own making.
